About Our School
Our school is located approximately twenty miles south of our county seed, Pikeville. Dorton School encompasses grades K-8. Additionally, one head start unit is located within our school. Based on the 2015-16 K-PREP state testing, Dorton Elementary received the rating of a Distinguished school also earning the title of School of Distinction in both elementary and middle school. Upon graduation, our students attend Shelby Valley High School. Our mission is for each student to leave here college or career ready. Most of our students are at least third or fourth generation residents of the area, making us a traditionally close-knit school. The residents of the area have diversified employment, the bulk of which depends upon the coal industry. We are proud to be the heart of the Dorton Community. |
