I’m so very proud of our track team tonight. This years’ team is the smallest we’ve had in my 20 years of coaching, but that didn’t stop them from making a strong showing at the 2018 Pike County Championship Meet.
Ethan Bentley and Faith Newsom both finished off unbeaten seasons in each of their 4 events.
Tonight Ethan won the Long Jump breaking a 9 year old school record held by Cody Wayne Lawson to go along with 1st place in the 100M, Shot Put, and Discus. This season Ethan has broken the Long Jump record and moved into 2nd place all time in the Shot Put and 100M dash.
Faith finished the county meet in 1st place in the 100M, 400M, Long Jump, and Triple Jump. This season Faith has broken the school record in the 400M and moved just outside the top 10 in the 100M. Faith is also just in the 7th grade so I look for even bigger things next season.
Hunter Mullins was only able to compete in parts of 2 meets this year due to baseball, but tonight he became county champion in the 1600M with a personal best of 5:49.
I don’t have official results for members finishing outside the top 3 yet (they gave medals to the top 3 at the end of the meet), but I know John Burke set personal records in the 1600M (6:30) and the Shot Put (27 feet) and I’m pretty sure Braiden Tackett and Hannah Childers each set personal records in at least 1 event.
